Expiry of Validity of the Certificate for Forest Management

The Certificate for Forest Management issued to the Selangor FMU (FMC 02) and the Terengganu FMU (FMC 03) against the requirements of MC&I(2001) have both expired on 13 December 2007 and will not be renewed, in line with MTCC’s decision to switch from the use of the MC&I(2001) to MC&I(2002).  Both the Selangor and Terengganu FMUs have been assessed to the requirements of the MC&I(2002) but were issued with Major Corrective Action Requests (CARs) that would need to be closed out prior to being eligible for certification.

In light of the above development, all logs sourced from the Permanent Reserved Forests (PRFs) in the Selangor and Terengganu FMUs beginning 1 January 2008 (i.e. all logs accompanied by Removal Passes issued dated 1 January 2008 and onwards) will not be recognised as certified material under the MTCC timber certification scheme. This ruling would apply until the FMUs concerned have successfully undergone the verification assessments to the requirements of the MC&I(2002) and have been awarded a new Certificate for Forest Management.
