Strengthening Malaysian Timber Certification Scheme (MTCS): Safeguarding Our Forests

Malaysia is home to some of the world’s richest tropical rainforests—an invaluable natural heritage. Since 1999, the Malaysian Timber Certification Council (MTCC) has stood as the national custodian of forest certification, advancing responsible forest management through the Malaysian Timber Certification Scheme (MTCS). As part of MTCC’s continuous efforts in strengthening its scheme, contributing to a more sustainable future, the Malaysian Criteria and Indicators for Sustainable Forest Management (MC&I SFM) – MTCS ST 1002:2021 and other technical documents are undergoing a review. Similar to previous review processes, MTCC will conduct public enquiries, meetings of Standard Review Committee(s) (SRC) and regional consultations.

This review is a crucial step in identifying areas to enhance, incorporate evolving best practices, improve social and environmental impacts, align with current advancements such as circular bioeconomic growth, and better address the needs of our valued stakeholders.

Please stay tuned for MTCC’s further announcements as we invite you to actively participate in the upcoming public consultations and other activities to ensure that you are a part of this important process.
