MTCC Will Strengthen Advocacy for Sustainable Forest Management through Certification at Agricommodity Week 2021

Kuala Lumpur, 25 October 2021 – The Malaysian Timber Certification Council (MTCC) will be promoting sustainable forest management through certification at the Agricommodity Week 2021 (#Keluarga Malaysia: MyKomoditi 2021) which will be held on 25-29 October. Organised by the Ministry of Plantation Industries and Commodities (MPIC), the hybrid “turun padang” or Meet the Client programme will be launched on 27 October by MPIC Minister YB Datuk Hajah Zuraida Kamaruddin.

Themed Shared Sustainability and Prosperity (“Kemampanan dan Kemakmuran Bersama”), the    Agricommodity Week 2021 is aimed at educating the public on the latest initiatives, technology and innovation under MPIC with regard to the development of agricommodity’s upstream and downstream industries. Its objectives also include to spark interest among the public to go for entrepreneurial ventures or build a career in the commodity-based sector, as well as to give an exposure to the youth on the various skills training programmes available in the plantation and commodity sectors.

MTCC will be conducting four online sessions at the event, namely a webinar on Ensuring Sustainability and Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Through Certification, a forum on Evolution of Sustainable Timber Certification in Malaysia and two briefings on Forest Management and Chain of Custody Certifications under the Malaysian Timber Certification Scheme (MTCS) and their respective requirements.

Virtual information booths will also be accessible throughout the five-day event for visitors to learn more about MTCC and the MTCS and the significance of certification for sustainable forest management and responsible manufacturing and trade in forest products.
