MTCC Appoints First Regional Representative in East Malaysia

The Malaysian Timber Certification Council (MTCC) has appointed Abraham Ngu as its Regional Representative (East Malaysia) effective 1 March 2022.

Born and bred in Kuching, Sarawak, Abraham graduated from Wesleyan University with a Bachelors of Arts (Hon) in Chemistry, where he was also a recipient of the Freeman Asian scholarship. He then studied forest management at the University of Washington, Seattle.

Abraham has worked with various communities and non-profit organizations in forest landscapes across Malaysian Borneo since 2016. He also brings with him extensive experience in rural development, renewable energy and agroforestry. As MTCC’s first regional representative in East Malaysia, Abraham’s responsibilities include monitoring the implement of the Malaysian Timber Certification Scheme (MTCS) and strengthening MTCC’s stakeholder engagement in Sabah and Sarawak.

With Abraham joining its ranks, MTCC hopes to raise the profile of the MTCS and its effective implementation by fostering close collaboration with government agencies, civil society, indigenous peoples, local communities, as well as the timber industry. As the leading timber certification organization of tropical forests, MTCC is committed to strengthening the MTCS to realise the full value and contribution of forest through sustainable forest management and chain of custody certification.
