Immediate Job Vacancy: Senior Executive, Legal

The Malaysian Timber Certification Council (MTCC) is a leading organisation championing sustainable forest management practices. We seek a passionate and strategic Senior Executive Legal to join our mission.

In this dynamic role, you will be expected to set up, oversee and manage all legal matters within our organisation, specifically focusing on forestry operations and ensuring compliance with chain of custody requirements for Malaysian Timber Certification Scheme (MTCS). This role entails reviewing standards, procedures, and guidelines related to forestry and chain of custody, communicating with ministry, stakeholder groups, government bodies and agencies. We’re seeking a candidate with a strong legal background, great negotiation skills, innovative and a passion for sustainability especially in the forestry industry.

Our ideal candidate is someone with experience in legal matters, particularly in the context of certification and governance.

 7Terms of AppointmentThe applicants must be a Malaysian citizen with no criminal records.  
 8Entry qualificationBachelor / Master in Law (LLB/LLM) and having MAICSA/ICSA certificate will be an added advantage.   Training/ Exposure/ Direct involvement to certification, compliance practices and drafting of standards are preferred. Familiar with federal and state laws as well as the intergovernmental relations and dynamics.
 9Language qualificationStrong written, drafting and verbal communication and negotiation skills in English and Bahasa Melayu.  
 10ExperienceMinimum seven to eight years of working experience in the related field and an established legal firm and/or reputable organization as an in-house legal counsel or in a legal advisory.  
 11Probation periodMinimum period of 6 months  
 12Responsibilities                                                              1. Set up the legal and governance unit in MTCC.
2. Provide strategic legal advice on the corporate structure, trademark and others matters, including structuring and pre-contract drafting stage, and draft, negotiate and review a wide range of commercial agreement including letters of intent, joint venture agreement, shareholder’s agreement, implementation and maintenance and support agreement and other documentation.
3. Provide legal compliance related guidance to stakeholders on standards, accreditation, governance requirements and documentation.
4. Provide advisory on matters related to the compliance of certification and drafting of new of standards. Participate in strategic engagement with internal parties, international stakeholders, relevant Ministries, State Government, timber industry players, Regulators & Local Authorities from time to time.
5. Ensure MTCC is compliant with the relevant regulatory and statutory requirements and preparation of Directors’ and Shareholder’s Resolution and Statutory Returns, the MTCC constitutions/regulations, listing rules and code of corporate governance.
6. Effectively and collaboratively identify, escalate, mitigate, and resolve risk, conduct and compliance matters.
