Dear Member of the Public / Malaysian Timber Certification Scheme (MTCS) Stakeholder,
The Malaysian Timber Certification Council (MTCC) is pleased to announce that nomination is now open for the Standard Review Committee (SRC). This is a crucial opportunity to contribute to the future of sustainable forest management in Malaysia.
As part of the five-yearly review required by the Malaysian Timber Certification Scheme (MTCS), the SRC will be responsible for reviewing and revising the core standards, including MTCS ST 1002:2021 (Malaysian Criteria and Indicators for Sustainable Forest Management) and MTCS ST 1003:2021 (Group Forest Management Certification). Your participation is vital to ensure these standards remain relevant, credible, and aligned with national and international requirements.
About the Standard Review Committee (SRC)
The SRC will serve as the multi-stakeholder “Forum” and its members should represent the different aspects of sustainable forest management covering the social, economic, environmental interest groups and the relevant government agencies from all three regions, Sabah, Sarawak and Peninsular Malaysia.
The PEFC benchmark standard, upon which the MTCS standards are based on, derives the major stakeholders of sustainable forest management from Agenda 21 of the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED) in Rio de Janeiro in 1992 as below:
- Business and Industry
- Children and Youth
- Forest Owners
- Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities
- Local Authorities
- Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs)
- Scientific and Technological Community
- Women
- Workers and Trade Unions
