KUALA LUMPUR, 24 September 2019 – The Malaysian Timber Certification Council (MTCC) has come up with revised Vision and Mission statements, reflecting its commitment to take sustainability to the next level in conjunction with its 20th Anniversary this year. The new Vision and Mission are announced by MTCC Chairman, Datuk K.Yogeesvaran during his welcoming remarks at the MTCC 20th Anniversary Conference earlier today.
“The 20th Anniversary provided an excellent opportunity for us at MTCC to rethink and realign our Vision and Mission to take our commitment towards sustainability to greater heights. I am therefore pleased to announce the new Vision and Mission as follows:
‘Vision: A nation that appreciates and internalises the full value and contribution of forest towards global sustainability;’
and
‘Mission: MTCC is committed to strengthen the MTCS to realise the full value and contribution of forestthrough sustainable forest management and chain of custody certification,’” says Datuk Yogeesvaran.
MTCC’s original Vision had been achieved when the Malaysian Timber Certification Scheme (MTCS) – the national timber certification scheme it operates – became the first tropical timber scheme in Asia Pacific endorsed by the Programme for the Endorsement of ForestCertification (PEFC), and when the PEFC-endorsed MTCS recognised under the public procurement policies and green building systems of many developed countries, especially in Europe.
The new Vision and Mission also serve as the basis for the MTCC Strategy 2020-2025, a short-term strategy formulated by the organisation to enhance its certification efforts in fulfilling global aspirations for sustainability.
MTCC’s 20th Anniversary celebration carries the tagline “Pushing Boundaries Advancing Sustainability”, which aptly encapsulates what the organisation has been doing over the past 20 years and sets the tone for its future endeavours. Apart from the Anniversary Conference, the programme line-ups include the launch of a commemorative book titled “TwentyYears: Pushing Boundaries Advancing Sustainability” and the presentation of MTCC Sustainability Awards which recognise certified organisations that have shown exemplary leadership and carried out inspirational initiatives in sustainability. Each winner will receive a special trophy designed by MTCC and Royal Selangor International Sdn. Bhd., an iconic Malaysian brand of the finest pewter products. The company is the first non-wood based product manufacturing company to obtain the MTCS Chain of Custody Certificate in 2007.
