Kuala Lumpur, 26 August 2021 – The much awaited MTCC Photography Contest 2021 winners’ announcement and prize-giving ceremony will take place at 5pm tomorrow, 27 August and will be streamed live via Facebook page of the Malaysian Timber Certification Council (MTCC) and the Kuala Lumpur Photography Festival (KLPF).
This year saw MTCC collaborating for the fourth time with KLPF organiser and photography magazine publisher, PCP Publications to run the contest from 21 March until 30 June. Themed “Experience Forest, Experience MTCS-PEFC”, the objectives of the contest were to raise public awareness on the beauty and benefits of Malaysia’s tropical forests, and promote the importance of valuing the nature and sustainable forest management through timber certification for the benefit of present and future generations.
Taking into account the movement control order (MCO) that has been imposed by the Malaysian government since March 2020 to control the spread of COVID-19, four new and exciting categories were introduced to allow contestants to show their creativity and hone their photography flair in spite of the travel and movement restrictions in place. Contestants were also allowed to submit photos and videos taken not more than five years prior to the launch of the contest on 21 March 2021.
Natural Forest Landscapes (Category A) was created for images that capture the beauty of forest and forest landscapes in Malaysia, while Wood in Our Life (Category B) called for images depicting the varied applications of wood in our life. Stay Safe, Stay Green (Category C) invited social media users to post photos showing their simple efforts in greening the Earth while staying safe at home. I Wonder and I Wonder (Category D) was created for contestants to submit videos showcasing nature’s wonders and sounds in Malaysia’s forests and parks.
The contest attracted 186 participants from throughout Malaysia, with 2,045 photos and 34 videos submissions. The judging was done virtually by PCP Publications General Manager and Editor-in-Chief, Jessica Chan, reputable photographer, Azul Adnan, MTCC Officer-in-Charge, Siti Syaliza Mustapha and MTCC Manager (Product), Sabrina Mawasi.
Winning photos will be exhibited at the KLPF 2021 in December. The Grand Prize and the First Prize winners of Category A and Category B will be in the running to win the PEFC Photographer of the Year Award at the PEFC Photo Contest 2021.
A total of 42 winners have been selected.
