Revised MTCS Technical Document MTCS ST 3002:2024 – Procedure for PEFC Notification of Certification Bodies Operating Forest Management System or Chain of Custody Certification

We are pleased to announce that the MTCC Board of Trustees has approved the revision to the current MTCS Technical Document MTCS ST 3002:2021Procedure for PEFC Notification of Certification Bodies Operating Forest Management System or Chain Of Custody Certification. This document outlines the procedure for PEFC notification of Certification Bodies (CBs) operating Forest Management Systems or Chain of Custody certification.

The revised document MTCS ST 3002:2024 now involves the inclusion of the MTCC logo and other related information on the certificates issued by PEFC-notified CBs under the MTCS. The CBs will be granted a six-month transition date, effective today 25 June 2024, to allow for a smooth transition and are expected to be in full compliance by 25 December 2024.

The main changes are as follows:

5.3 The certificate shall include at least the following information:
a)  The certification scheme which the certificate is issued, i.e. the Malaysian Timber Certification Scheme (MTCS);
b)  identification of the certification body;
c)  name of the certificate (i.e. Certificate for Forest Management or Certificate for Chain of Custody);
d)  information of client organisation;
–   for forest management certificate: name of certificate holder, name and area (in hectares) of Forest Management Unit/ Forest Management Plantation Unit.
–   for Chain of Custody certificate: name of certificate holder, location of certified site and scope of certification, CoC method
e)  type of certificate (individual, multi-site or producer group);
f)   reference to the standard used (i.e. MC&I SFM or PEFC ST 2002 Chain of Custody of Forest and Tree Based Products – Requirements); g)  the date of granting, extending or renewing certification and the expiry date or recertification due. The certification shall be granted for a maximum of five years;
h)  MTCC logo with certification body’s MTCC licence number;
i)   PEFC logo with the certification body’s PEFC licence number;
j)   accreditation mark of the accreditation body (including accreditation number where applicable); and
k) The number of the certificate
