Invitation for Peer Reviewer Training Course on the MC&I for Forest Management Certification

Invitation for Peer Reviewer Training Course on the
Malaysian Criteria and Indicators (MC&I) for Forest Management Certification

MTCC will be organising a one-day training for peer reviewers on the requirements of the MC&I(Natural Forest) as well as the new forest plantation management certification standard, MC&I Forest Plantation.v2. The training which is opened to professionals with the relevant expertise and experience will be held on 26 November 2015 at the MTCC Office.

Under the MTCS, it is required that the stage-2 audit or recertification audit reports prepared by a certification body (CB) be reviewed by independent experts. The aim of the peer review process is to obtain a second opinion on the level of compliance of the Forest Management Unit (FMU) or the Forest Plantation Management Unit (FPMU) under audit against the requirements of the certification standards. Two peer reviewers will be involved in the review of a particular report.

The potential Peer Reviewer must meet the following criteria:

i.                    have a minimum of ten (10) years work experience in forestry or expertise related to various aspects of sustainable forest management, such as ecology, environmental sciences, biology, sociology and forest economics;
ii.                  have the necessary training and work experience to assess the adequacy of the reports submitted by the auditors. In-depth knowledge on the applicable local regulations and condition of the forest areas audited, including the forest management system being implemented, would be an advantage;
iii.                have a good understanding of the certification standards for natural forest and forest plantation management;
iv.                have not provided any consultancy services including the preparation of the forest management plan, in the three (3) years prior to the audit. For this purpose, the reviewers shall submit a list of all forestry-related consultancy projects undertaken in the past three (3) years; and
v.                  have no financial, trade or business interest in the outcome of the certification decision made for the FMU/FPMU audited.

For those qualified and interested to become peer reviewers, please fill up the peer reviewer training application form and return it to us via email or fax by or before 23 November 2015.
