The Malaysian Timber Certification Council (MTCC) is pleased to announce that the Pahang FMU has become the second FMU after the Negeri Sembilan FMU to be awarded with the new Certificate for Forest Management<\/em> against the requirements of the Malaysian Criteria and Indicators for Forest Management Certification<\/em> [MC&I<\/em>(2002)].<\/p>\n

The award of the Certificate for Forest Management<\/em> to the Pahang FMU was based on the outcome of a verification assessment conducted by an independent accredited assessor, i.e. SGS (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd. (\u201cSGS\u201d) on 3-7 September 2007.\u00a0 As a result of the verification assessment, the one remaining Major Corrective Action Request (CAR) and nine Minor CARs raised during the main assessment were closed-out.\u00a0 Three Minor CARs were maintained and two new Minor CARs raised.\u00a0 However, as these Minor CARs do not preclude the FMU from being recommended for certification, SGS has recommended that the Pahang FMU be eligible for the award of the new Certificate for Forest Management<\/em> against the requirements of the MC&I<\/em>(2002).<\/p>\n

The Report on Verification Assessment of Pahang Forest Management Unit for Forest Management Certification<\/em> prepared by SGS was tabled for the consideration of the MTCC Certification Committee during its Forty-First Meeting held on 13 November\u00a0 2007.\u00a0 The Committee concurred with the recommendation made by SGS and therefore agreed to award a new Certificate for Forest Management<\/em> to the Pahang FMU. The Certificate for Forest Management<\/em> issued to the Pahang FMU bearing No. FMC 001 dated 13 November 2007 will supersede the earlier Certificate<\/em> issued to the FMU against the requirements of the MC&I<\/em>(2001).\u00a0 The Certificate<\/em> will be valid for five years and surveillance audits will be carried out every 12 months to ensure the FMU\u2019s continued compliance to the requirements of the MC&I<\/em>(2002).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
