


Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) graduates, Nur Farah Wahida binti Ibrahim and Lee Ke Hui were awarded the MTCC Academic Awards 2023 by the Malaysian Timber Certification Council (MTCC).
Nur Farah Wahida binti Ibrahim, a student under the Plant Resource Science and Management Programme, received the award for her thesis titled “Taxonomy Study of Genus Rinorea Aubl. (Violaceae) in Western Sarawak”, whereas Lee Ke Hui from the Animal Resource Science and Management Programme was given recognition for his thesis titled “Distribution Pattern and Morphological Variation of Selected Species of the Genus Japonia in Sarawak”.
Nur Farah Wahida and Lee Ke Hui received RM1,000 in cash and a certificate each. The awards were presented to them by the Chief Executive Officer of MTCC, Dr. Farrah Shameen Mohamad Ashray, at the academic excellence award and prize presentation held in UNIMAS, in conjunction with the 27th UNIMAS convocation ceremony. Present were Vice Chancellor, Professor Datuk Dr. Mohamad Kadim Suaidi, Faculty Dean and Associate Professor Dr. Samsur Mohamad.
The MTCC Academic Awards hopes to contribute to the increase in expertise in natural resource management, particularly for the sustainability of forests and related industries by encouraging and rewarding brilliance within relevant fields of study. Its objectives are to motivate students to excel in their education and consequently pursue a career in sustainable forestry or the timber-based sector.
