Invitation For Peer Reviewer Training Course On MC&I Sustainable Forest Management

Dear Dr / Sir / Madam,

With reference to the above matter, MTCC will be organising a two half-day training to familiarise peer reviewers on the requirements of the MC&I Sustainable Forest Management, the merged standard that replaces both the MC&I(Natural Forest) and MC&I Forest Plantation.v2 as the standard for certification of natural forest and forest plantation management in Malaysia. Peer reviewers are independent experts appointed to review forest management certification audit reports prepared by the Certification Body to ensure that the audit report has the necessary content to act as the basis for the recommendation to award or renew the certificate for forest management under the Malaysian Timber Certification Scheme (MTCS).

A nominal fee of RM30 will be charged for the training. Peer reviewers who successfully complete the training will receive a certificate, and that their name will be listed on the MTCC website as a qualified peer reviewer under the MTCS. The training is open to professionals with the relevant expertise and experience and will be held as follows:

  • Date:         7 – 8 July 2021 (Wednesday & Thursday)
  • Time:        8.45 AM – 1.00 PM
  • Medium:   Zoom (Link will be provided to registrants)

The peer reviewer must meet the following criteria:

  1. have a minimum of five (5) years’ work experience in forestry or expertise related to various aspects of sustainable forest management, such as ecology, environmental sciences, biology, sociology, forest economics, zoology, and agriculture;
  2. have the necessary training and work experience to assess the adequacy of the reports submitted by the auditors. In-depth knowledge on the applicable local regulations and condition of the forest areas audited, including the forest management system being implemented, would be an advantage; and
  3. have a good understanding of the certification process under the MTCS and the standard used for sustainable forest management certification and its related auditing procedures.

If you are interested to become a qualified peer reviewer, please complete the registration form attached and return it to MTCC via email at [email protected] latest by 2 JULY 2021. Please do not hesitate to contact Melvin Ku at 012-298 1985 if you have any further enquiries.

Thank you.
