MTCC is pleased to announce that the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification schemes (PEFC) has endorsed the Malaysian Criteria and Indicators for Forest Management Certification (Forest Plantations), or in short the MC&I(Forest Plantations) as part of the PEFC endorsed Malaysian Timber Certification Scheme (MTCS), with effect from 20 July 2012.
The MC&I(Forest Plantations) was submitted by the MTCC for assessment against the PEFC ST1003:2010, Sustainable Forest Management – Requirements. The assessment was carried out by an independent assessor, Indufor Oy, appointed by PEFC in accordance with Annex 7 of the PEFC Technical Document.
The decision to endorse the MC&I(Forest Plantations) was made following the PEFC General Assembly postal vote among PEFC members based on the recommendation of the PEFC Board of Directors and the evaluation report by Indufor Oy.
The endorsement of the MC&I(Forest Plantations) will now enable local companies which own or manage forest plantations to apply for forest plantation management certification under the PEFC scheme.
