Kuala Lumpur, 2 August – The Malaysian Timber Certification Council (MTCC) welcomes Datuk K. Yogeesvaran as its new Chairman. The appointment comes into effect on 27 July 2018.
MTCC CEO Yong Teng Koon said, “We are very honoured to have Datuk Yogeesvaran as our new Chairman as he brings with him a great wealth of experience and expertise following a distinguished career with the civil service that spans over 37 years. Datuk Yogeesvaran began his career at the Economic Planning Unit (EPU) as an administrative and diplomatic service (PTD) officer in 1981. Among the positions he has held included Director, Knowledge Economy Division; Director, Industry Service Division; and Deputy Director-General (Macro) of the EPU before being promoted as the Secretary General for the Ministry of Plantation Industries and Commodities in August 2017 until his retirement in May 2018.”
Datuk Yogeesvaran holds a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) from University of Malaya (1980), LLB from University of London (1994) and M.A. Economics from Manchester University (1996).
“With such a distinguished personality, MTCC will definitely benefit from Datuk Yogeesvaran’s knowledge and experience to advance and spearhead the sustainable forest management agenda in the country through the Malaysian Timber Certification Scheme,” added Yong.
On his appointment as the Chairman of MTCC, Datuk Yogeesvaran said, “I thank the Minister of Primary Industries for the trust given to lead the MTCC. I count it a privilege to serve and will do my level best to contribute to our national sustainability agenda of ensuring that the precious forest resources that we have are being managed sustainably while at the same time continue to fulfil the growing market demands for green products.”
The new Chairman also recorded his sincere thanks and highest appreciation to the outgoing Chairman. “We are truly grateful to Datuk Himmat Singh for his able leadership, wise counsel and invaluable contribution during his tenure as MTCC Chairman. We wish him a happy retirement,” said Datuk Yogeesvaran.
