AUDITOR TRAINING COURSE ON FOREST MANAGEMENT CERTIFICATION UNDER THE MALAYSIAN TIMBER CERTIFICATION SCHEME (MTCS)
This is to announce that the Malaysian Timber Certification Council (MTCC) will be conducting two auditor training courses on forest management certification related to the use of the two forest management standards under the MTCS as follows:
(i) Malaysian Criteria and Indicators for Forest Management Certification (Natural Forest) or in short the MC&I(Natural Forest); and
(ii) Malaysian Criteria and Indicators for Forest Management Certification (Forest Plantations) or in short the MC&I(Forest Plantations).
(i) Auditor Training Course on MC&I(Natural Forest)
Date : 3 – 6 September 2012 (Monday – Thursday)
Proposed Venue : Kuala Lipis, Pahang
(ii) Auditor Training Course on MC&I(Forest Plantations)
Date : 3 – 6 December 2012 (Monday – Thursday)
Proposed Venue : Bintulu, Sarawak
The main aim of the training courses is to train the auditors of the MTCS-notified certification bodies (CBs) so that they fulfill the auditor competency requirements and qualify to conduct forest management certification of natural forest and forest plantations under the MTCS.
In order to increase the pool of trained auditors for forest management certification under the MTCS, MTCC is also opening both training courses to other individuals who are not attached to any MTCS-notified CB but are interestedto attend these courses to become trained auditors. A maximum of 20 places are allocated for each training course, and qualified individuals will be selected based on a “first-come-first served” basis.
Potential candidates are required to possess professional qualification and relevant work experience to attend the training coursesi. e. a degree in forestry or in other fields related to forest management such as ecology, environmental sciences, biology, sociology and forest economics as per the requirements stipulated in the ACB-FMC Competency Requirements for Bodies Operating Forest Management Certificationissued by STANDARDS MALAYSIA.
A participation fee of RM2,000.00 (Ringgit Malaysia: Two Thousand only) per training course will be charged for each participant to cover the costs of tuition, lunch, tea breaks, and training materials. The cost of travelling and accommodation will be borne by the participants. Payment either by cheque/money order/postal order is to be made payable to ‘Malaysian Timber Certification Council’.
Participants will be divided into smaller groups to undertake a trial forest management audit under the guidance of in-house trainers from MTCC. The field audit will include the following activities:
- Review of documents
- On-site assessment
- Consultation with stakeholders
- Issuance of Corrective Action Requests (CARs)
- Preparation of audit report and recommendations
