Formation of the Standards Review Committee (SRC) for the Review of MC&I(Natural Forest)

Published Date : November 16, 2016

The formation of the Standards Review Committee (SRC) for the review of MC&I(Natural Forest) has been completed in line with the requirement of the SSP 3/2014 Rules on Standard Setting Process for Development of Timber Certification Standards. The SRC is a committee elected by the respective stakeholder groups i.e. the relevant government agency, indigenous people, workers, environment and industry from the three regions of Malaysia i.e. Sabah, Sarawak and Peninsular to spearhead the review of the MC&I(Natural Forest).

The formation of the SRC has been initiated through a letter dated 13 November 2015 which was sent to all stakeholder groups by post and e-mail to facilitate the nomination of candidates for consideration to become Member of the SRC. Stakeholder groups are encouraged to nominate candidates who possess relevant knowledge and expertise to represent their respective stakeholder group in the standard review process. MTCC compiled the list of nominations received and circulated it for election by the members of the respective stakeholder group. For each stakeholder group, the candidate who received the highest number of votes was elected as the Member while the candidate with the second highest number of votes was elected as the Alternate Member of the SRC. Where there were only two candidates nominated, consultations between the candidates were held to determine the Member and Alternate Member. The elected Member and Alternate Member of the SRC is as shown in Table 1.
